List of families

Welcome to the main entry page. The purpose of this part of the site is to provide detailed information about the native and naturalised vascular plant species of the British flora.

All families, genera and species which are purely cultivated in Britain are excluded. Checklists of cultivated plants are available on the List of cultivated plant families page.

There are 2 columns of information.

  1. The first column is a series of links to the families. Click on a link to enter the family pages.
  2. The purpose of the second column, which is headed 'Content', is to indicate in a simple way whether there is any content for that particular family. Specifically, it indicates whether the family description has been done and whether there is a sample image for the family.

Click on a letter below to take you to the first family whose name begins with that letter.
